I absolutely adore The Vampire Diaries. One thing I love is that despite having a big cast, the creative team finds ways to utilize every character in really fascinating ways. Some characters are oblivious to the goings on in Mystic Falls (Jenna), some are finding out more and more (Jeremy) and there’s even a newly turned vampire (Caroline). The show is off to an amazing start to the second season. I recently had the chance to chat with the cast and executive producers at New York Comic Con. Steven R. McQueen talked about what’s coming up for Jeremy in the next few episodes, if there will be a Jeremy/Katherine interaction and a possible love interest.

I think the first question that everyone wants to know, in the footage that they showed, they really showed Jeremy getting into the mix with weapons. Tell us a little bit about where he’s going in the next few episodes.
Jeremy has been pushed around and pushed around, been soft, and worn his emotions on his sleeve for so long. You can only have this friction rubbing against you for so long before you become calloused, and he’s calloused at this point, and becomes a little stronger and starts to fight back, rather than letting all this stuff happen to him. He’s going to say – excuse my language – fuck that, I’m going to take control, and I’m gonna take part in this whole thing and help work in a productive manner to get done what I need to.

Would you say that Jeremy’s fully forgiven Elena?
I think at this point, Elena’s the only family he has left. He lost his parents. He’s lost the two girls that he loved. Elena is the only connection to the human world that he has left besides his family responsibilities. So, though he still doesn’t fully trust her, he loves her with all his heart and he’ll do anything to protect her.

Can we expect a new love interest any time soon?
Yes you can…[Julie Plec then added that it could possibly be someone we already know — to which Steven replied] Dun dun dun!

And will Jeremy have any Katherine interactions perhaps?
Watch the next couple of episodes. Definitely. He gets involved in that world, and if you’re getting involved in the vampire world, you’re bound to run into Katherine, cause she’s kind of the showrunner.

With the more mature, responsible Jeremy that we’ve seen this season, has he completely abandoned his reckless ways?
No, he’s just as reckless as ever, just in new ways. Before it was more self destructive, and now he’s going to be a little more outer destructive. He’s kind of causing chaos in the world rather than just to his internal organs.
