HERRINERINGEN UIT EEN ANDERE TIJD – Elena is gedwongen om haar problemen onder ogen te zien wanneer het verleden haar inhaald. Na een avond op van de jaarlijks Whitmore Medical Center Fundraiser, vertelt Jo Alaric over haar eigen tragische verleden. Intussen gaan Stefan, Matt en Enzo tot het extreme wanneer Tripp informatie achterhoud over zijn vampier-dodende operatie. Wanneer Sherrif Forbes in een gevaarlijk plan beland heeft Caroline alle tijd nodig om haar te redden. Intussen groeien Tyler en Liv naar elkaar toe en ontdekt Damon iets wat hem weer hoop geeft.
