On the Sept. 9 Season 2 premiere of “The Vampire Diaries,” the Salvatore brothers find themselves in a familiar situation.

They’re once again fighting over a woman. In 1864, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) were torn apart by their mutual obsession with Katherine (Nina Dobrev). Now, despite having 150 years to learn from their mistakes, they’ve both fallen for the less lethal (but equally gorgeous) Elena.

“Love makes you stupid,” Somerhalder tells me, by way of explanation, during Zap2it‘s exclusive visit to the show’s Atlanta set. “Just like wars, famine, the BP oil spill, we have the attention spans of a mosquito, and we don’t remember what made us unhappy in history.”

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. This is IGN. We appeal to guy’s stuff. But I’m here to tell you, if you haven’t been watching, The Vampire Diaries is a really cool show. What looked like a Twilight clone when it first began quickly evolved into a complex, layered story with a ton of surprising twists and turns and a very detailed and involving mythology.

Playing not one but two key components to that mythology is Nina Dobrev. The actress has the lead role as the human Elena, but also has had the opportunity to play Katherine, the evil vampire who started the whole story by turning brothers Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) into vampires in 1864. Katherine had previously appeared only in flashbacks, until the shocking Season 1 finale revealed she had returned to the town of Mystic Falls – and was quickly up to her old, bloody tricks.

I had the opportunity to speak to Dobrev about the new season ofVampire Diaries, which premieres this Thursday, and the challenges and rewards of playing two characters simultaneously.

IGN TV: So suffice to say, Katherine is going to be stirring up a lot of trouble as we begin Season 2?

Nina Dobrev: Yes, Katherine is most definitely back. She’s back and she’s going to wreak havoc. The thing about Katherine is she’s so spontaneous and unexpected. You can’t really get into her mind to figure out what she’s up to, because if she doesn’t want you to know, you’re not going to find out. She does everything for her own amusement and own entertainment. Screwing with people and messing with their minds and playing with them is the most fun for someone who’s been on the earth for however many hundred years. You get bored of the regular grind, so why not come back and visit and ex or two, and a new girlfriend, and stir up the pot?

september 16, 2010   Reacties uitgeschakeld voor Melinda Clark over TVD en Nikita   Uncategorized

Butt-kicking babes are back in a big way this fall, and The CW’s ‘Nikita’ has more than its fair share of sexy action heroines.

The new series is an update on the 1990 movie ‘Nikita,’ the movie’s 1993 remake ‘Point of No Return’ and the 1997 Canadian TV show ‘La Femme Nikita.’ In The CW’s version, Nikita (Maggie Q) is a rogue assassin conspiring to topple Dvision, the secret government agency that trained her.

But Division has weapons of its own, including Melinda Clarke’s Amanda, a manipulative psychologist who may just have been a former assassin herself.

Clarke spoke to TV Squad about learning to kick butts alongside Maggie Q, her mysterious character and whether we’ll see her again on ‘Vampire Diaries.’

How did you get involved with ‘Nikita’?
There’s a process in Hollywood, and one of those processes is pilot season, where you’re just going on auditions. But for me, this particular project, ultimately became a perfect storm, and it traces all the way back to ‘The O.C.’ McG is a producer, Peter Rob is the head of Warner Brothers and the relationships that were cultivated then led to this project. So, usually pilot season is very busy, and there are lots of auditions and lots of near misses and rejections. This year, I had two auditions, landed this role and it felt like being home again.

september 16, 2010   Reacties uitgeschakeld voor BuzzSugar Interview met Katerina Graham   Katerina Graham

Just in time for The Vampire Diaries’ second season premiere, I chatted with Katerina Graham, who plays Bonnie on the series. She spilled the beans on whom she thinks Elena should be with and a possible love connection between Bonnie and a certain sexy vampire (though she played it very, very coy). Graham dished on the new werewolves, and also revealed her fever for a young man named Justin Bieber.

BuzzSugar: What are you most excited about in the upcoming season?
Katerina Graham: I’m really excited about the season premiere, honestly. There have been so many episodes shot after that — we’re on episode six — but I’m really dying to see the season premiere, I’m just dying!

Buzz: Has it been weird acting with Nina Dobrev as Katherine and Elena now?
KG: No! Nina’s always great to do scenes with, and just because she’s a new character she’s still very much Nina Dobrev, still very much that person to work with. She’s handling Katherine really really well.

Buzz: I’ve noticed some sexual tension between Damon and Bonnie.
KG: I don’t know what you’re talking about.

The Vampire Diaries is back on TV tomorrow night! The second season is picking up where it left off — a mysterious Katherine reappearance, Tyler Lockwood dealing with his new, scary self and his dad’s death and is Jeremy a vampire? Is he dead? So many questions which will all be answered tomorrow night! I can tell you this: there is no way you will be disappointed by the season premiere. I adored this show last season as it continued to get better and better while delving deeper into the mythology in Mystic Falls and the residents who cause trouble (human or vampire). I recently had the chance to catch up with the cast and producers at Comic Con. Ian Somerhalder talked about the upcoming season, his teetering humanity that we saw come out last season and how his motivations have changed since the first episode.

What excites you the most about this new season?
The challenges that await. It’s not going to necessarily be the funnest season for Damon. I think he’s going to be challenged a lot where I don’t think he was used to being challenged. There’s some things that wreak more havoc in Mystic Falls than he probably did in season one, and it’s going to be a problem. So those challenges are something to look forward to, because it’s not boring.

september 16, 2010   Reacties uitgeschakeld voor Popwatch: Ian over seizoen 2   Ian Somerhalder

The Vampire Diaries has been good to Ian Somerhalder: It earned him a spot on Entertainment Weekly’s 2009 list of TV’s Best Bitches and the title of Sexiest Beast in this summer’s popular EW.com bracket game, which saw readers rack up more than 1.5 million votes while whittling the 64-deep field down to his devilishly delicious Damon Salvatore and Twilight‘s saintly sensitive Edward Cullen. Shortly after his victory last month, we caught up with a humbled and grateful Somerhalder, who was already feeling the pressure that comes with the crown…

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Congratulations on Damon being named the ultimate Sexy Beast.
IAN SOMERHALDER: [Laughs] That is so cool.

september 16, 2010   Reacties uitgeschakeld voor Interview met Sara   Sara Canning

If you ask us, it seems there are two types of “Vampire Diaries” fans: those who want to see Elena (Nina Dobrev) end up in the steady arms of Stefan (Paul Wesley) and those who want to see her fall hard for bad boy Damon (Ian Somerhalder). (To be fair, there’s probably a very, very small contingent rooting for ex Matt, but we’re not going to go there.) No matter where your allegiances lie in the Elena-Stefan-Damon triangle, I think we can all agree on one couple we want to see go the distance: Elena’s Aunt Jenna (Sara Canning) and teacher-by-day, vampire-hunter-by-night Alaric Saltzman (Matthew Davis). So when we spoke with Sara in anticipation of season 2′s premiere (two more days!), we just had to ask about the pair’s future.

Unfortunately, Sara is almost as in the dark about the couple’s destiny as we are, even though they have shot scenes together for the upcoming season. “I think the audience and Matt and I have been waiting to see what is going to happen with them because it’s been so stop and start,” she said. “It’s been really kind of a cool development for Jenna because we see her meeting this new guy and recognizing that he could be really good for her. But she’s given up old habits and she’s not going to chase him down.”

september 16, 2010   Reacties uitgeschakeld voor TV Chick Interview met Paul   Paul Wesley

The Vampire Diaries was one of my favorites from last season, prominently standing out as one of the best new shows in a crowded pack. Last season ended on a huge cliffhanger and this season brings a lot of surprises. There are supernatural beings and twists and turns that I’m not going to spoil for you. However, I can say that everyone is in for a treat because the premiere is absolutely amazing. And if you haven’t watched the first season, seriously, the show is out on DVD, what are you waiting for? At Comic Con, I spoke with the cast and producers of The Vampire Diaries. Paul Wesley talked about playing the darker side of Stefan, what his motivations are for the upcoming season and how is relationship with his super sexy brother Damon is going to change.

In season 2, how does Damon and Stefans’s relationship change?
From my perspective, for me, I’m broken hearted by my brother because as sociopathic and religious as he is, I still love him, and he knows that as well. I think at this point Stefan — he doesn’t empathize as much or care. He’s like “You know what, I’m not going to deal with this guy.”

What do you think Stefan’s motivations are for season 2?
Elena, Elena, Elena, Elena…he loves her. Also, coming to terms with himself — sort of the transformation. Season 2 is going to be a lot of acceptance for Stefan, being like “this is who I am.” He’s going to do other things. Be jovial. I think it will be nice.

september 16, 2010   Reacties uitgeschakeld voor TV Chick interview met Steven   Steven R. McQueen

This week (and next!) on The TV Chick might as well be called CW week. There are so many amazing shows premiering soon and I can’t wait. One of those shows is of course one of my favorites from last season, The Vampire Diaries. If you haven’t watched this show about Mystic Falls and supernatural beings, what are you waiting for? The Vampire Diaries is so much more than your quintessential teen drama; it really has it all. It ended on a huge cliffhanger and I can tell you the season premiere will not disappoint. This summer, I attended Comic Con, where I got to talk to the cast of the show. Steven R. McQueen, who plays Jeremy Gilbert (Elena’s brother), talked about what’s coming up this season for Jeremy, losing Anna, and his fragile relationship with all of the people in his life.

What’s coming up for you this season?
There isn’t much I can give away because of the cliffhanger. I can tell you that Jeremy’s pushed around a lot. He’s lost everything that has mattered to him, and has no father figure and has no mother to give him guidance. So he develops a mindset that he’s done being pushed around and starts to push back.

What about his relationship with Elena, that’s still kind of fragile?
I think he starts to view things from a more logical standpoint, rather than acting on emotion. He sees people for what they are. He doesn’t trust anyone. Elena’s the only family he has left besides Aunt Jenna, but she’s a different age and doesn’t quite understand all this natural crazyness that’s going on. So though he doesn’t trust Elena, it’s the only connection to humanity he really has left.

Pembroke Hill classmates Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain remain that rarity in the television business: a seasoned female writing duo never lacking for work.

And they keep such good company. They broke into prime-time TV when Kevin Williamson of “Dawson’s Creek” fame hired them. Next, “Buffy” and “Firefly” creator Joss Whedon put the duo on “Angel,” and then Shawn Ryan hired them at “The Shield.”

Fain and Craft (or is it Faincraft?) got to run a show on their own in 2007 but soon parted ways with ABC over “Women’s Murder Club.” What happened next may speak to their reputation more than anything: Whedon hired them back to help develop “Dollhouse.” Next, Ryan asked them to assist on “Lie to Me.”

Then this summer, as if completing the circle, Craft and Fain joined the writing staff of “The Vampire Diaries,” which Williamson developed with Julie Plec.

“The Vampire Diaries,” based on the young-adult novels published in the early 1990s by L.J. Smith, revolves around a beautiful high-school student named Elena who is courted by a new boy in town, Stefan, who in turn is stalked by his brother Damon. Needless to say, both boys are vampires.

september 16, 2010   Reacties uitgeschakeld voor Ian en Micheal over TVD   Ian Somerhalder, Micheal Trevino

In The CW’s hit drama The Vampire Diaries, Ian Somerhalder plays Damon Salvatore, the older and far more dangerous of the vampire brothers who share a long and bitter history that is closely connected to their hometown of Mystic Falls. In season 2 of the series, Michael Trevino’s character, the volatile Taylor Lockwood, will be giving bad-boy Damon a run for his money in the villain department, as his more primal werewolf side makes an appearance.

During an interview to promote the new season of their popular show, co-stars Ian Somerhalder and Michael Trevino hinted at what’s coming up for their characters and what fans can look forward to.

Question: Ian, what hints can you give about what’s coming up for Damon in season 2?
